THREE TO SIX YEAR OLDS
The 3-6 classroom focuses on independence through sensorial and practical life skills, self confidence, concentration and focus that leads to self-mastery. Our curriculum also includes language arts and math, continued reading & writing, and introducing them to the bigger world with basic introductions to social studies, science, history, geography, zoology, botany, and spanish. We round it out with Suzuki music (voice) and the optional piano, art and gymnastics classes. COORDINATION & LIFE SKILLS
Gross motor skill lessons are combined with practical life lessons such as washing, polishing, dusting, scooping, pouring, measuring, twisting, screwing, wringing, folding, packing a suitcase, hanging clothes, etc. OTHER SKIILLS
Besides reading and writing exercises, we work on their “other” senses with smelling, tasting, textures/tactile sensastions, and many other kinesthetic exercises. MANNERS, GRACE & COURTESY
We work on manners every day in all classes. We work on “please”, “thank you”, “no thank you”, “you’re welcome”, etc. SUBJECTS
We work on geometric shapes, names and patterns. We learn the decimal system, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, as well as time and money. READING
We work on “pink reading”--three letter phonetic words. We work on “blue reading--four or more letter works that are phonetically sounded out. We work on ”green reading”--which includes dipthongs ("oi", "oy"), digraphs ("ch", "sh", "wh", "th", "ph"), phonograms ("ea", "oa", "ie"), irregular vowel combinations ("ei"), silent "e", etc. TO JUMP TO 6-9 CLASS
We work with parents to decide when to move a child up to the 6-9 class. The main change we look for is the start of abstract thought--when they start to ask why things are, how things were figured out, and when they start to notice contradictions. |
